³⁶ Sacrifice a bull each day^(A) as a sin offering to make atonement^(B). Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate^(C) it.

¹² “When you take a census^(A) of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom^(B) for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague^(C) will come on them when you number them. ¹³ Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel,^[a] according to the sanctuary shekel,^(D) which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the Lord. ¹⁴ All who cross over, those twenty years old or more,^(E) are to give an offering to the Lord. ¹⁵ The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less^(F) when you make the offering to the Lord to atone for your lives. ¹⁶ Receive the atonement^(G) money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent of meeting.^(H) It will be a memorial^(I) for the Israelites before the Lord, making atonement for your lives.”

⁴ You are to lay your hand on the head^(A) of the burnt offering,^(B) and it will be accepted^(C) on your behalf to make atonement^(D) for you.

²⁰ and do with this bull just as he did with the bull for the sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement^(A) for the community, and they will be forgiven.^(B)

²² “‘When a leader^(A) sins unintentionally^(B) and does what is forbidden in any of the commands of the Lord his God, when he realizes his guilt ²³ and the sin he has committed becomes known, he must bring as his offering a male goat^(C) without defect. ²⁴ He is to lay his hand on the goat’s head and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before the Lord.^(D) It is a sin offering.^{(E) 25} Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar^(F) of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.^{(G) 26} He shall burn all the fat on the altar as he burned the fat of the fellowship offering. In this way the priest will make atonement^(H) for the leader’s sin, and he will be forgiven.^(I)

²⁷ “‘If any member of the community sins unintentionally^(J) and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, when they realize their guilt ²⁸ and the sin they have committed becomes known, they must bring as their offering^(K) for the sin they committed a female goat^(L) without defect. ²⁹ They are to lay their hand on the head^(M) of the sin offering^(N) and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering.^{(O) 30} Then the priest is to take some of the blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering^(P) and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. ³¹ They shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar^(Q) as an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(R) In this way the priest will make atonement^(S) for them, and they will be forgiven.^(T)

³² “‘If someone brings a lamb^(U) as their sin offering, they are to bring a female without defect.^{(V) 33} They are to lay their hand on its head and slaughter it^(W) for a sin offering^(X) at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.^{(Y) 34} Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.^{(Z) 35} They shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the lamb of the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar^(AA) on top of the food offerings presented to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.

⁶ As a penalty for the sin they have committed, they must bring to the Lord a female lamb or goat^(A) from the flock as a sin offering^[a];^(B) and the priest shall make atonement^(C) for them for their sin.

⁷ “‘Anyone who cannot afford^(D) a lamb^(E) is to bring two doves or two young pigeons^(F) to the Lord as a penalty for their sin—one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. ⁸ They are to bring them to the priest, who shall first offer the one for the sin offering. He is to wring its head from its neck,^(G) not dividing it completely,^{(H) 9} and is to splash^(I) some of the blood of the sin offering against the side of the altar;^(J) the rest of the blood must be drained out at the base of the altar.^(K) It is a sin offering. ¹⁰ The priest shall then offer the other as a burnt offering in the prescribed way^(L) and make atonement^(M) for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.^(N)
